It is advisable that you do not touch the area for 6 hours. Do not apply make up for approximately 24 hours.
Alcohol acts a blood thinner and should be avoided for at least 24 hours after getting lip fillers. Alcohol can cause inflammation, increase the likelihood of bruising, and make swelling worse.
For pain relief, avoid blood-thinning medication like Asprin & Ibuprofen. Paracetamol is fine.
Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help your body heal & improve the result.
Eat plenty of hydrating fruits and vegetables and try to avoid excess salt, which may worsen swelling.
For 48 hours you should avoid exposure to UV and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sunbeds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc, as this may increase discomfort and swelling.
Infections can occur but are thankfully, extremely uncommon.
If you get a painful or itchy bump or itchy swelling near an injection site that continues for more than 3 days.
If you think you are having an allergic reaction.
If any side effect continues for more than 3 days.
Pending Necrosis though extremely rare needs immediate attention to prevent scarring.
It is caused by filler or swelling disrupting the usual blood supply causing discolouration (pale or dusky coloured skin) usually associated with pain within the first few hours after a treatment.
Higher risk areas are in the forehead or frown area, and the corner of the nose. It can occur in many places, however. It requires an immediate return to the clinic or if after hours to A+E.
Anaphylaxis is an extreme allergic reaction & quite rare. If immediately after your treatment, you were to start to feel generally unwell and develop swelling and redness around your face your clinician is trained to recognise and deal with anaphylaxis.
If you are no longer in the clinic 999 should be called for an urgent ambulance explaining your concern is anaphylaxis
If you had local or topical anaesthetic, please do not consume any hot or cold drinks until your sensation has returned to normal.
You must also be careful when eating so as to avoid biting your lip.
If you experience any lumpiness in lips, they can be gently massaged to help smooth them out. If they are too sore to massage, they will smoothen out by themselves within 28 days.
Smoking can increase the risk of infection, so it’s important not to smoke immediately after getting lip fillers. If you feel that you need to, make sure anything coming into contact with the lip is clean.
Your lips will swell and possibly bruise, this can give the appearance of ‘unevenness’ and a ‘lumpy’ feeling in the lips. This will settle once the swelling and bruising have gone.
Although most lips settle within 2 weeks, appearance during the first 28 days should not be seen as the final result. In rare cases, swelling can last several months.
Immediately after = Swelling, possible bruises.
Same evening = moderate to severe swelling.
Day 2-3 = moderated to severe swelling, bruising, possible asymmetry, firm, possible lumps.
Day 4-7 = mild swelling, mild bruising, possible asymmetry, firm, possible lumps.
Day 8-14 = reduced swelling, reduced asymmetry, firm, reduced lumpiness.
Day 14-28 = no swelling, no bruises, lips begin to soften, any lumpiness or unevenness will begin to even out during this period but they still may take the full several months to settle.
Expect Bruising, some slight swelling & redness and a feeling of stuffiness for a few days.

The treated areas can feel very tight & tender for a few days. Edges & corners may look sharper for the first 14 days, these will smoothen out.
For cheekbones, it is important that you sleep upright or on your back for at least 72 hours. Sleeping on your side can cause asymmetry.
For chin & jaw, you will feel boluses (lumps) underneath the skin, this is normal & intentional.
